English for Tourism Training Based on VR Technology in Laksana Ibun Tourist Village, West Java
Laksana Ibun Tourist Village, situated in West Java, is enhancing the tourist experience by introducing an innovative program: English for Tourism training based on Virtual Reality (VR) technology. This program aims not only to improve the English language skills of local residents who interact with tourists but also to offer a unique and immersive experience for participants.
With the tourism industry in Indonesia flourishing, the ability to communicate effectively in English has become increasingly crucial. This is especially true in tourist villages like Laksana Ibun, where direct interaction between local residents and tourists is integral to the tourism experience. However, language barriers often hinder effective communication.
In addressing this challenge, Laksana Ibun Tourist Village has collaborated with the Community Service Team from Telkom University, a collaboration between the Faculty of Communication and Business and the Faculty of Applied Sciences, to develop an innovative solution. Through the use of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, training participants can experience interacting in various tourism situations without leaving their location.
The English for Tourism training program based on VR is specifically designed to provide realistic simulations of tourist interactions with local residents. Using VR headsets, participants can practice various communication scenarios, from welcoming guests to providing information about local attractions. Additionally, they can receive direct feedback and guidance from qualified instructors.
One of the main advantages of this approach is its ability to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for participants. They can overcome nervousness or anxiety in communicating in English without the pressure of direct interaction with tourists.
This program not only benefits the local residents but also enhances the experience of tourists visiting Laksana Ibun Tourist Village. With the improved English language skills of local residents, tourists can feel more welcomed and supported during their visits. This not only creates a more enjoyable experience but also strengthens the bond between the local community and the tourism industry.
As an innovation that combines education, technology, and tourism, the English for Tourism Training Program based on VR Technology in Laksana Ibun Tourist Village serves as an inspirational example for other regions in Indonesia. By harnessing the potential of technology to enhance skills and experiences, we can build more competitive and sustainable tourist destinations for a brighter future.
