Supporting Global Publication Without Fees, SCS Hosts Strategic Workshop on High-Impact Journal Writing
BANDUNG, April 9, 2026 – The School of Communication and Social Sciences (SCS) at Telkom University successfully organized a workshop titled “Strategic Academic Writing for High-Impact Journals: Publishing Without APC.” This initiative was specifically designed to strengthen the academic capacity of faculty members in penetrating reputable international journals without the burden of Article Processing Charges (APC).
Smart Strategies for Free Scopus Publication
During the presentation sessions, participants were equipped with technical skills to utilize the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) platform to find credible journal references. Moving beyond theory, participants engaged in hands-on simulations for selecting and uploading articles to Scopus-indexed journals that offer free publication options.
The speakers emphasized that publication success begins with in-depth research into target journals. “Do not merely focus on Scopus indexing status. Faculty members must be more selective and vigilant in their choices to avoid predatory journals that could jeopardize academic reputations,” the speaker stressed during the session.
Intensive Stages: From Hunting to Investigation
The workshop was divided into several practical sessions to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the publication workflow:
- Session 1: Journal Hunting & Quality Evaluation Participants engaged in journal hunting activities and evaluated quality based on key indicators, such as indexing status, editorial board credibility, peer review transparency, and techniques to identify predatory journals.
- Session 2: Journal Investigation & Scope Fit At this stage, participants practiced investigating whether a journal is still actively indexed in Scopus. They also studied the concept of scope fit, ensuring that their manuscripts “speak the journal’s language” to align with the focus and discussion trends of the target journal.
- Session 3: Scope Matching & Novelty The final session focused on reflection and adjusting writing approaches. Great emphasis was placed on research novelty, achieved through the use of new data, innovative methods, or unique research contexts.
Boosting Institutional Academic Reputation
Through this workshop, FKS hopes that faculty members will not only increase the quantity of their publications but also improve their quality and selection strategies. This strategic step is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing the academic reputation of SCS Telkom University at both national and international levels.
